Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Water (2-2/3 cups)
  • Butter (2 tbsp)
  • Salt (1 tsp)
  • Grits (2/3 cup)
  • Black pepper (1/2 tsp)
  • Garlic powder (1/2 tsp)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, grated (5 oz)

Directions

  1. Bring water, butter, and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. Whisk in the grits to prevent lumps.
  3. Cover, reduce heat to a simmer, and cook according to package directions.
  4. Stir in black pepper and garlic powder.
  5. Add the grated cheese and stir until fully melted and blended.

Notes

  • Stone-ground, quick-cooking, or regular grits all work; check the package for cooking time.
  • Fresh minced garlic can be substituted for the garlic powder.
  • Leftovers keep tightly covered in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
  • Reheat in the microwave at 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds, or gently in a saucepan with a splash of water to prevent sticking.
